Bernard is a third-generation winemaker who farms around 25 hectares of vines to the north-east of Nantes in the Loire Valley. He worked with his brother Jo in the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine area before moving in 2002 to the lesser-known (and less expensive) Ancenis (north east of Nantes). Domaine Landron has been organic since 2010, they have a patchwork of vineyards. This part of the Coteaux de la Loire experiences warm days, cooled by proximity to the Atlantic that also helps reduce humidity is this wet area. Melon de Bourgogne particularly enjoys the diversity of soils and Atlantic breezes resulting in wines of freshness and a signature minerality.
Tasting Notes
The nose is fresh and clean, reminiscent of a subtle sea breeze. The palate is light with lemony notes and a briny saline quality, snappy acidity and good mid palate texture from lees contact. The finish is crisp and dry. In Benoît’s words, this is a light and easy white wine and a must with seafood! Enjoy with mussels and fries, delicate fish, sushi, smoked salmon.
Method
Made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne grape grown on soils that are a mix of decomposed volcanic material; mica schist, granite and gneiss. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts at 20°C. Aged for 6 months on lees in concrete tanks. No added sulphites. Organic, biodynamic and vegan friendly.
