High on the slopes of Mount Veeder, Mayacamas Vineyards has been a source of legendary California wine since 1889. As the newest owners in a lineage of pioneering caretakers spanning 125 years. The Mayacamas style begins with an early harvest to preserve acidity and encourage bright, vibrant flavours. The wines see extended ageing in neutral oak vessels ranging in size from small barrels to large foudres—some in use since the 1920s. Finally, the wines are released only after further time in bottle, ensuring the elements coalesce into a complete wine. This unwavering approach results in classically-styled, age-worthy wines. Because of the remarkable ability of these wines to continue to improve with decades of aging, the estate holds back a percentage of production for re-release in the future.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, lifted aromatics of acacia and jasmine supported by a lovely fruit set of ripe pear, tart pineapple, and cantaloupe. On the palate, flavors of lemon oil, almond, chamomile, bright tropics, orchard fruit, and crushed flint rock. Pair with a variety of seafood, chicken dishes, or pasta in a richer, cream sauce.
Method
Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in Mt. Veeder AVA in the Mayacamas Mountains which is within the Napa Valley, bordering the Sonoma Valley. The grapes were hand harvested in late August, pressed whole cluster, fermented in both neutral barrel and stainless steel, and then aged in a combination of large format foudre, puncheon, and neutral barrel for 10 months before being bottled.

Just opened the 2015. An iconic and respected wine that should be on your “try list” for all the history and care that goes into making this wine. A full flavour profile that’s rich and round on the palate with a prominent citrus finish. A beautiful wine but you pay for the pleasure.
