Longview is a stunning family owned Australian vineyard located just outside the historic township of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of old-world estates but unmistakably Australian, it has quickly established itself as one of the most awarded vineyards since its 2001 inaugural vintage.
Perfectly manicured vines, towering gum trees, gently undulating hills and big blue skies make up the backdrop at the stunning Longview Vineyard. As well as lush foliage and landscaped gardens, the property features rural-chic architecture that knits together this quintessential Australian landscape.
Longview Estates falls within Adelaide Hill’s cool-climate sites. Most of the rainfall occurs during the winter months, while the summers are warm and dry and the vineyards are cooled by the winds coming off of Lake Alexandria to the east and the coast to the South. These are ideal conditions for the development of flavours, aromatics, depth and structure in wine grapes.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant blueberry fruit character with underlying spice and dark chocolate on the palate. Dry on the palate with a mid-weight mouth feel displaying a beautiful balance of fruit and youthful acidity. It is flavoursome and rich with integrated oak and a long-structured finish. This is a distinctive Longview wine which has all the attributes that define their Adelaide Hills single vineyard.
Method
Made up of 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes for this wine are sourced entirely from Longview’s vineyard at Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills. The Shiraz component is sourced from three different vineyard blocks and the Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from another block. The fruit was harvested in cool conditions, crushed and fermented for 14 days on skins, then gently pressed and matured for 12 months in new and old French, as well as old American oak hogsheads.
Our Thoughts
Hailing from the cool climate growing region of Adelaide Hills in South Australia, this shiraz dominant blend is perfect for that BBQ meal you’re having. A powerful blend of berries and spice attack the palate followed by a long rich finish. They’ve crammed a lot of wine into these bottles! Ba-boom.
