The iconic Domaine Tempier has been an active family run farm since 1834 and was given to “Lulu” Tempier and Lucien Peyraud in 1936 as a gift from Lucien’s father. Thanks to Lucien’s dedication in helping revive the Mourvedre grape, Bandol is often cited as being a “grand cru of Provence”. The terroir of Domaine Tempier is varied and complex. The land is made up of a patchwork of geologically diverse plots spreading on over a 60 hectare area. Domaine Tempier has always been respectful and faithful to mother nature. The entire farming process is aligned to the rhythm of the seasons and the lunar calendar; they are an organic and biodynamic wine estate.
Tasting Notes
Minerality, fresh, citrusy with white blossom aromas. This white can be enjoyed now and up to 8 years from the vintage should you wish to experience the wine as it develops in bottle. Enjoy this crisp white wine while young or hold onto it for longer aging and notice its evolution towards more honeyed and marine aromas and flavours. Drink it with seafood!
Method
This 18-hectare piece of land bought in 2016 is oriented east, south–east, located at 300 meters altitude. It is a terroir with an exceptional potential, mostly composed of sandy marl of the santonien. Its cooler orientation is what interested the owners of Tempier as it is less hot, it is mostly used to emphasize the freshness of white and rosé wines. Historically this terroir was considered the reference for Bandol in these two colors. This cuvée accounts for just 3% of Domaine Tempier’s total wine production. It is a blend of Clairette (60%), Ugni blanc (30%) with Rolle (aka Vermentino), Bourboulenc, and Marsanne. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and ages for 10 months before bottling.
