Tasting Notes
BalancedMaltySmooth
The Church Brewing Company started with two brothers originally from Nova Scotia who moved out west. They’ve since come back home to start up their dream brewery. The Church brews German and Belgian inspired beers in their brewery which used to be an old church. The team worked hard to restore the building and give it a new life as one of Nova Scotia’s most unique breweries!
Tasting Notes
Pouring a burnished copper with a suggestion of red, and with brilliant clarity. Vienna Lagers showcase honey, and biscuit aromas and flavours, along with a nutty and sometimes subtle dried fruit character. Thanks to a long lagering process, Heart of Gold drinks very smooth, and wraps up with a clean finish that’s already making you think about another sip.
Method
Brewed with Pilsen Malt, Vienna Malt, Melanoidin Malt, and Carafa III Special malt – this combination of malts give the beer a wonderfully complex flavour base and that great colour that goes along with it. Magnum hops are used to bitter but aren’t really detectable in the finished beer, this lager is all about malt!
Our Thoughts
The smell of Heart of Gold transports me back to my baking rotation, way back in culinary school where I had to make biscuits everyday. Complementing the decadent aroma of freshly baked biscuits are notes of honey and hazelnuts; light in body, this beer is great on its own but I highly recommend having it with a hearty, braised beef pie.
