Tasting Notes
BitterCitrusJuicy
The Breton Brewing Company is located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The tasting room is open for brewery tours, growler fills, pints, and entertainment! Breton has quickly become a staple not only in the hometown of Sydney, but also across the province for their offerings of well made everyday craft beer. They brew a core lineup of hoppy ales, crisp lagers, and some fruited sours, and you’ll sometime catch them with a mixed fermentation barrel aged beer from time to time.
Tasting Notes
Ripe tropical and citrus aromas dominate, the palate is fresh and vibrant with grapefruit flavour but thanks to the juicy nature of the beer, the pithy bitterness of the grapefruit is balanced out by the hops. Mouthfeel is silky smooth and juicy with refined bitterness.
Method
Emphasising hop aroma and flavour without bracing bitterness, the New England IPA leans heavily on late and dry hopping techniques to deliver a bursting juicy, tropical hop experience. The skillful balance of technique and ingredient selection, often including the addition of wheat or oats, lends an alluring haze to this popular take on the American IPA.
Breton took the New England style a step further and added fresh grapefruit juice and zest to crank up the citrus aroma and flavour to another level.
