The Beam family has been distilling since 1795 when Johannes Beam first started making corn whiskey on his farm. People used to bring their own jugs to fill at the distillery and it wasn’t until 1880 that the distillery began bottling under the name “Old Tub.” Prohibition put a stop to “Old Tub” and the distillery was destroyed but James Bauregard Beam rebuilt the distillery in 1933 and a decade later they changed the name to Jim Beam. Today, the Jim Beam brand is the best selling bourbon brand in the world and boasts an extensive product lineup.
Booker’s Bourbon is named after Jim Beam’s grandson and master distiller, Booker Noe. First created as a holiday gift for his special friends, Booker’s whiskey was so well-received that he decided to make it available to bourbon lovers worldwide. Unlike anything you have ever tasted, Booker’s is one of the only uncut, unfiltered, straight-from-the-barrel, bourbons available today.
Tasting Notes
From the distillery: On the nose, robust vanilla and caramel notes; slightly smoky. On the palate, deep and complex flavours of vanilla, nuts, and oak. On the finish, long and full; perfect for easygoing sipping.
Method
While the mash bill is not officially disclosed, it seems similar to Baker’s and is reportedly around 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% barley. Booker realized that the best-tasting barrels always seemed to come from the center of the rackhouse due to a combination of temperature and humidity factors and it is these barrels that are still drawn from to create Booker’s bourbon today. Each new batch can be tracked on Booker’s website to get specific information about which floor of which warehouse the whiskey came from and how long it sat there. The final blend is always aged somewhere between 6 and 8 years and is bottled undiluted and ranges from 60% alcohol by volume to around 65% alcohol by volume.
