Benjamin Bridge vineyards are located in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley on the Bay of Fundy, where the cool climate bears an uncanny affinity with the Champagne region of France. The estate makes a range of wines; sparkling, white, red, rose, dry and sweet. Though the focus is on making world-class Méthode Classique sparkling wines that have been compared in tastings to Champagne. The hand crafted wines of Benjamin Bridge have helped raise the profile of the Nova Scotian wine industry.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, a golden straw colour with emerald brilliance. On the nose, suggestions of key lime, green apple sorbet and wild flower blossoms become complex under layers of sea spray and flint. The vibrant acidity immediately invigorates the palate, with echoing hints of honeydew melon, lemon rind and acacia honey. An unmistakable Tidal Bay of extraordinary connection to place, thanks to an electric brightness pointing directly to a unique maritime climate.

Method

To earn the Tidal Bay designation, all wines must follow a strict set of technical standards that are enforced throughout the winemaking process- from growing to bottling and more.  These standards were created by a committee of winemakers, sommeliers and wine experts.

The 2022 growing season was a tale of two chapters; the season started early, featuring premature bud break and a dry and warm June. At this point, it looked like there was going to be an early harvest. However, as Mother Nature would have it, the coolest July and August in recent memory caused a change in plans.  The elongated growing season provided substantial depth and textural intensity, while the cooler temperatures of mid to late summer preserved the lively acidity that is a cornerstone of the tidal environment.  The resulting 2022 vintage is a true expression of the Nova Scotia terroir.

The 2022 vintage is a blend of 55% l’Acadie, 24% Seyval, 17% Riesling, 4% Geisenheim.
