Château Grand Launay, a family property in Côtes de Bourg, has belonged to the Cosyns family since 1968. It was Michel Cosyns, an oenologist trained by Émile Peynaud in Bordeaux who bought the vineyard originally. His son, Pierre Henri Cosyns, took over the estate in 2007. Pierre Henri originally studied engineering, but returned home to the family estate when his father was sick and needed his help. He then studied oenology and graduated as an oenologist in Bordeaux in 2005. They are certified organic (2012) and biodynamic (2018) and are always looking to produce the most natural and minimally invasive wines possible. Wines without added sulphur, indigenous yeast fermentations and vegan wines. Pierre Henri only uses natural plant care products. The vineyard benefits from a varied landscape and a preserved ecosystem: a diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora, woods and a pond.
Tasting Notes
Bright pale yellow with green reflections. Aromas of boxwood and blackcurrant, grapefruit and citrus. Lively and dynamic in the mouth. This fresh and crisp white wine would pair well with a variety of raw or grilled seafood; sushi, prawns, smoked salmon, tuna tartar, as well as chicken and white meats.
Method
Made from Sauvignon Gris grapes grown on a 2 ha plot of loamy soil in Teuillac in the Côtes de Bourg AOC. The grapes are certified biodynamic by Demeter. The juice ferments via wild indigenous yeasts in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks and ages on the fine lees for 3 months with batonnage.
