Nestled in Blackford, Scotland, Tullibardine’s history dates as far back as the 1400s, where the buildings formerly housed a brewery – even serving beer to King James 4th of Scotland! Flash forward to 1947 when the brewery was converted into a distillery, producing its first drop of spirit in 1949. Despite the distillery changing hands a few times over the years since, Tullibardine’s reputation for the highest quality Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky hasn’t wavered.

Tasting Notes

From the distillery: In the glass, beautifully golden. On the nose, hints of citrusy lime and hints of vanilla and oatmeal. On the palate, there is a touch of tropical pineapple and zingy orange zest. Finishing with a creamy edge.

Method

Finished in a 225 litre cask (thus the name) which previously held maturing Sauternes dessert wine from Chateau Suduiraut. Non chill filtered and bottled at 43%.

Our Thoughts

Nose: Smell the Sauternes! Banana chips, apricot, honey and marmalade. Some salted caramel, which immediately had me sold.
Palate: Light, round mouthfeel. Custard, caramel-covered green apple, and more marmalade. This is a dessert scotch! So food friendly, I can imagine this taking the place of your favorite dessert wine at the end of a meal.
Finish: More honey and custard; clean.
